speed drugs to market. The nature, severity and cost of the diseases we are targeting reinforce our sense of urgency to bring new and effective drugs to market. Both Argatroban and our endothelin antagonists, for example, address major unmet needs in cardiovascular medicine. Before Argatroban, there were no drugs approved for the prevention and treatment of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, a condition that can cause devastating outcomes such as limb amputations, stroke and death. Similarly, pulmonary hypertension, for which we are developing our lead endothelin antagonist sitaxsentan, is a progressively fatal disease that is still poorly treated with available therapies.
